From the Notices: 27th January

v We are sad to hear of the death of Howard Duncombe. His funeral will take place on 4 February at 10.15 am at Earlham Crematorium, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving for his life at Hethersett Methodist Church at 11.15 am, after which refreshments will be served in the Church hall. We hold his family in our thoughts and prayers. Donations in his memory will be shared between Nelson’s  Journey and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

v Brian Sargent is recovering in hospital, having been admitted on Tuesday this week. Please pray for him and for Gavin, who is looking after him.

v Advance notice of an exciting free 3Generate event for anyone aged 8 to 23 on Saturday 9 March from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, at High Street Methodist Church, Harpenden. There will be workshops, activities and worship. Transport can be arranged. Talk to Revd Debbie Caulk, who can let you have more details.

v The annual District Songs of Praise at Thursford is on Sunday 24 March at 3.00 pm. The list of people booked on the coach has been confirmed. There are likely to be a few seats available. Please contact Terry Dunning if you are interested. Details will be announced in due course.

v Thank you for your generous donations over the Christmas period to the Norwich Foodbank, which have helped to make Christmas special for many individuals and families in crisis. The need goes on; do keep your donations coming, using the shopping list overleaf as a guide.

v Thank you too for your gifts to Christian Aid through envelopes in the pews (£552.82) and the Church Christmas card (£220.50), a grand total of £773.32. The Christmas theme was Be a peacemaker. By supporting Christian Aid, you are standing together with those on the frontline of peace-making, bringing healing, wholeness and hope to people affected by conflict. We are grateful to Christina Potter for organising this appeal.

v The January issue of Contact, our Church magazine, is out now. Do ask the Pew Stewards for your copy.

v You’re invited to join other churches in praying this week for Norwich Central Baptists and for the Nightclubs in our city.

Spirit of our God, descending,
fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
love with every passion blending,
pleasure that can never cloy;
thus provided, pardoned, guided,
nothing can our peace destroy.
