From the Notices: 19th January 2020

 A Service of Contemporary Praise will be held at Hethersett Methodist Church this evening at 6.30 pm, with the theme New Starts. The preacher will be Rev Steve Cullis. All are welcome.

 We are sad to hear of the death of Janet Finnemore, a faithful member of our Church. We hold David, her husband and Nigel and Peter, her sons, in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. A Service of Thanksgiving for her life will be held at Chapel Field Road on Friday 7 February at 11.00 am, followed by refreshments.

 We have also heard of the death of Michael Webster who, with his wife Gill, used to worship regularly here at Chapel Field Road. A Service of Thanksgiving for Michael’s life will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Mile Cross this Friday, 24 January, at 12 noon.

 The January edition of Contact, our Church magazine, is out now. Do ask the Pew Stewards for your copy. Items for the February edition should be with Pauline Mann today.

 The Chain of Prayer for Christian Unity takes place this Thursday, 23 January, in St Luke’s Chapel, Norwich Cathedral, from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. All are welcome at any time. Our church will be leading the prayers from 12.45 to 1.00 pm; please let Terry Dunning know if you’d like to help.

 St Martin’s Housing Trust have written to us expressing their gratitude for the practical Christmas Gifts we donated and the final total of £140, emphasising that our support means a great deal to them.

 With the addition of some late gifts to Christian Aid, we are delighted to hear that the grand total now amounts to £966.97. Thank you for your generous donations in the envelopes and through the Church Christmas card.

 We’re invited to join with other churches in praying this week for Churches Together in Norwich, and for ecumenism in our city.

After Christmas

Darkness begins a
retreat: the cold light flows back
over the dead land.

Put the tree out now;
hang nuts on its branches –
see feathered decorations come.

Take down the Christmas
cards: arrowheads in the dust
point to spring cleaning.

Cold bites deep: warm your
mind at Christmas memories
and look for snowdrops.
